The Rapid Solicitors Elite League have renewed their television deal with Premier Sports for the 2014-15 season, continuing the channel’s commitment to screen regular matches from Britain’s premier ice hockey competition.

This season’s exclusive deal with the subscription sports channel includes live matches throughout the season, including the playoff semi-finals for the first time, as well as the final.

Premier Sports took over the rights to screen the Elite Ice Hockey League at the beginning of the 2013/14 season from Sky Sports, with the new TV deal with ensuring regular weekly live coverage of the competition’s top games. 

Aaron Murphy will return to lead the Premier Sports EIHL team each week, presenting and commentate on the Game of the Week every Saturday, where he will be joined by a different expert each week to add local flavour to broadcasts.

Tony Smith, the Elite League’s chairman, said: “It’s fantastic news that we have Premier Sports back with us for next season.

“Last season’s deal raised the profile of the sport and it was great to have such live television presence. The show was well supported by Elite League fans and well received – and we look forward to working with Premier Sports again.”

Richard Sweeney, CEO of Premier Sports, added: “We are delighted to confirm coverage for next season of the EIHL, which complements our NHL, IIHF and CHL coverage.

“It means over 550 games of ice hockey are shown every season from August through to June. It is also great news that the playoff semi-finals will be shown for the first time on television.

“We look forward to working hard with our production partner to further enhance the live shows and, with the launch of free HD streaming for Sky-platform Premier customers, it is exciting times ahead for UK hockey fans.”

Premier Sports has been running since 2010 and offers fans in the UK an opportunity to receive wall-to-wall coverage of variety of niche sporting events.

Its current portfolio is made up of over 1,000 live events per year and includes NRL and Four Nations rugby league, as well as regular ice hockey, motorsport, GAA and South American football.

Premier Sports’ renewed deal with the EIHL follows the broadcaster’s recent deal for exclusively live coverage of the newly formed Champions Hockey League, of which it will screen up to 25 live games from the group stages to the final.

The Nottingham Panthers will represent the UK’s EIHL and Premier Sports will have live coverage of all six of their group stage games against Hamburg of Germany, Lukko Rauma of Finland and Lulea of Sweden.

Alongside CHL and EIHL, Premier Sports is also the exclusive home of the NHL and IIHF international hockey events.

Premier Sports has secured a deal to broadcast live coverage of all Republic of Ireland home friendlies to its UK audience until 2018.

The Football Association of Ireland’s new TV agreement with the channel’s sister station Setanta Sports in Ireland means its UK affiliate, branded as Premier Sports since 2010, will now screen every home Republic of Ireland friendly international for the next four years.

Premier Sports has previously broadcast Republic of Ireland’s home friendlies on a game-by-game basis, including recent matches against Portugal and Italy, which acted as their guests’ warm-up matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but this is the first long term deal for Premier to show home friendlies featuring one of the home nations. 

Coverage under the new contract starts on Wednesday, September 3, as Martin O’Neill’s side take on Oman, followed by a friendly fixture against USA in November, with both being played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

In a major coup for the channel, Premier Sports will also screen live coverage of an England match for the first time when the Three Lions travel over to play an historic friendly match against the Irish at the Aviva Stadium in June 2015.

The fixture represents the first meeting of the two sides in Ireland since the infamous abandoned match in February 1995, held at the former Lansdowne Road, when the game was stopped after half an hour following rioting from a section of the England supporters.

Premier Sports’ live rights to Ireland’s home friendlies involving the home nations are non-exclusive, meaning ITV will also air the England fixture as part of their deal for live friendly internationals with the FA.

The Setanta/Premier Sports deal does not include rights to broadcast the Republic of Ireland’s qualifying matches for Euro 2016, with these instead being shown by Sky Sports under a new centralised UEFA TV deal for qualifying matches for major tournaments, in a similar system to that used for the Champions League.

This resulted in European football’s governing body taking control of selling TV rights to qualifying matches, rather than individual national associations.

Welcoming the news of the Setanta/Premier Sports deal, FAI chief executive John Delaney said: “This is a wide ranging agreement that demonstrates a real commitment from Setanta Sports to Irish football.

“Covering all home friendly matches, alongside existing commitments to the SSE Airtricity League, Setanta Sports will provide an excellent platform for the promotion of the game.

“I would like to thank Setanta Sports for their investment which will be used to develop Irish football throughout the country.”

A year on from Australia’s World Cup triumph at Old Trafford, the world’s top four rugby league nations go head-to-head in the southern hemisphere for the 2014 Four Nations title and fans can follow all the action this autumn with BBC Sport and Premier Sports.

With the domestic Super League and NRL seasons now over, attention turns to the international game for the finale to the 2014 season and the first edition of the now biennial Four Nations tournament since 2011.

England travel to the southern hemisphere to face world champions Australia, 2008 World Cup winners New Zealand and a potential banana skin in the form of Pacific islanders Samoa.

It is set to be a series of early rises for rugby league fans in the UK over the next four weeks, with the big game against Australia in the second weekend of the tournament on Sunday, November 2 kicking off at 05:00 GMT.

The RFL will be desperate for a good England showing, both to move on from the high profile Ben Flower incident in the Super League Grand Final and to make up for England’s disappointment at failing to make the World Cup final on home soil last year.

England’s first match will be against Samoa and coach Steve McNamara has named four new internationals in his 17-strong matchday squad, including Wigan’s scrum half Smith, who will still be smarting after the Grand Final defeat.

There are two new hookers in Josh Hodgson of Hull Kingston Rovers and Daryl Clark, whose magnificent form for Castleford saw him named 2014’s Man of Steel, the award for the best player in Super League.

They will be captained by Canterbury forward James Graham, once of St Helens, who led England in the 2010 tournament in the absence of the injured skipper Adrian Morley.

Samoa, who beat Fiji 32-16 in Penrith in May’s Four Nations qualifying match, could prove tricky opposition for the three established and world-leading rugby league nations as they get set to make their debut in the competition

Their squad consists mainly of NRL players, with prop Mose Masoe of St Helens and Wakefield Trinity hooker Pita Godinet the only European-based players, while stand-off Ben Roberts is set to join Castleford next year.

Toa Samoa were beaten quarter finalists in the 2013 World Cup, recording an impressive win over France in Perpignan in the group stage before losing 22-4 to Fiji in the last eight.

It was, though, their first match against the Kiwis of New Zealand in Warrington which proved most memorable: Samoa trailed 36-4 in the second half but rallied, scoring four unanswered tries bringing the score to 36-14 before a late New Zealand try settled a classic match.

For their part, the Kiwis enter the tournament as some peoples’ favourites, due in no small part to the injuries which have plagued the Kangaroos.

However, they are without prop Sam Moa, who has withdrawn for family reasons, and their superstar wing Sonny Bill Williams, who has returned to rugby union in time for next year’s World Cup in the 15-man code.

For all their selection issues – they have eleven players out injured – Australia still have captain Cameroon Smith, as well as the likes of Cooper Cronk, Sam Thaiday, Greg Bird and Greg Inglis to strike fear into any opponent.

The clash between them and New Zealand could be the game of the championship and immediately follows England’s match against Samoa in a Brisbane double-header on the opening weekend.

England will do well to record a victory against either of the ‘Big Two’, having not beaten either in the southern hemisphere since the Great Britain side was wound up after the 2007 series at home to New Zealand

Great Britain’s heroic 2006 win over Australia by eleven points remains the last notable British scalp in Oceania.

England welcome back Joel Tomkins, brother of star fullback Sam, from rugby union, but have lost their devastating forward Sam Burgess in the opposite direction, with the former Bradford and South Sydney player joining Bath and hoping to represent England in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

McNamara’s side is also without Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield, who retired from international rugby league earlier this year.

England will be desperate to go one step further than in two of the three previous finals in which they were heavily beaten on both occasions by Australia, who still boast a phenomenally talented squad and are firm favourites to lift the title ahead of neighbours and co-hosts New Zealand.

Follow all the drama of the 2014 Four Nations with every England game live and free-to-air on BBC Two, while all seven games from the competition will be broadcast live on Premier Sports.

BBC Sport will screen live coverage of every England match during the 2014 Four Nations as Steve McNamara’s side travel to the southern hemisphere to face world champions Australia, New Zealand and newcomers Samoa.

The action kicks off bright and early on Saturday, October 25 with the first game of the tournament between England and Samoa in Brisbane, followed in subsequent weeks by two more early-morning meetings with Australia and New Zealand respectively, all of which will be shown live on BBC Two.

For the duration of the tournament, the BBC will base its coverage from their studios in Salford, with Mark Chapman and Tanya Arnold sharing presenting duties across all four weeks, with guests including John Wilkin, Eorl Crabtree and Jonathan Davies joining them to provide expert analysis.

Commentators Dave Woods and Brian Noble will be out in Australia and New Zealand describing every moment all three England games, with Woods also conducting pre and post match interviews with the key names.

If fans are unable to get up in to watch the live action on BBC Two, highlights programmes at a more civilised hour will follow on either BBC One or BBC Two, featuring the best of the action from each England encounter, plus extended highlights of the non-England games.

In addition to every England match, BBC Two will also broadcast live coverage of the 2014 Four Nations final on Saturday, November 15, from Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

BBC Sport’s rugby league website – bbc.co.uk/rugby league – will provide comprehensive coverage throughout the tournament, including a live stream of all matches shown on BBC TV and audio commentary from BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra, plus live text commentaries, reports and opinion from the BBC pundits.

Premier Sports will be the only place to watch all seven games from the 2014 Four Nations tournament in their entirety this autumn as it broadcasts the competition for the first time.

Along with live coverage of every England game, simulcast with the BBC, Premier Sports will be screening exclusive coverage of Australia’s head-to-head with their neighbours New Zealand on opening night in Brisbane on Saturday, October 25.

The subscription sports channel, which is available on Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk, as well as online, will also screen live coverage of the final from Wellington on Saturday, November 15, sharing coverage with the BBC.

It’s a big weekend in the Premier League with three crucial live games, kicking off with Newcastle United’s home match against Liverpool (BT Sport) on Saturday lunchtime, followed on Sunday by the small matter of the Manchester derby (Sky Sports), a fixture in which City have had the best of in recent years, winning five of the last six league encounters.

Despite having guided the Sky Blues to the title last term, the reigning champions are already six points adrift of leaders Chelsea. On Sunday neighbours and rivals Manchester United come to town, fresh from grabbing a last gasp draw against Jose Mourinho’s men and boosted by the return from suspension of Wayne Rooney.

While the Manchester derby dominates the weekend’s football, there is plenty of world class sport to enjoy across the channels this weekend, including the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, as the Formula 1 world championship nears its climax (Sky Sports).

A fifth straight win for championship leader Lewis Hamilton would be his third victory stateside and draw him closer to winning his second world title, though the absence of financially stricken teams Caterham and Marussia means just 18 cars will line-up on the grid for the 17th round of the 19-race season.

Also in the motorsport world this weekend, the Superbike World Championship reaches its climax in Qatar (British Eurosport), with Britain’s Tom Sykes in pole position to retain his title and become the first British rider since Carl Fogarty to win back-to-back WSBK titles.

It is the second weekend of rugby league’s Four Nations and after beginning with a hard-fought win over Samoa last Saturday, Steve McNamara’s England now take on world champions Australia in Melbourne early on Sunday morning (BBC Two/Premier Sports).

The two sides’ previous meeting also met in the group stage of 2013’s World Cup, when the Aussies won a thrilling contest 28-20 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, though the hosts come into their match against England having been beaten by arch rivals New Zealand last weekend.

In rugby union, the All Blacks are prepare for next week’s huge test match against England at Twickenham by going up against the USA Eagles on the other side of the Atlantic, in front of a sell-out crowd at the famous Soldier Field in Chicago (Sky Sports).

Elsewhere on Saturday, Wales kick off their autumn series on Australia at the Millennium Stadium (2.30pm, BBC One), Scotland host Argentina at Murrayfield (5.30pm, BBC Two), while Ireland play their opening match against South Africa in Dublin (5.30pm, Sky Sports 2).

International action takes centre stage for football fans this weekend with the latest round of European Qualifiers, featuring England’s clash against Slovenia at Wembley on Saturday (5.00pm, ITV).

England started well against the mighty All Blacks last Saturday but were blown away in the second half, while South Africa were beaten 29-15 by Ireland, who host upcoming minnows Georgia on Sunday afternoon (2.30pm, Sky Sports 4).

New Zealand will look to record rare back-to-back wins over Australia when the two sides meet on Saturday morning, with the Kiwi’s having beaten England in a pulsating match a week ago in Dunedin to book their place in the final.

The end-of-season Barclays ATP World Tour Finals draws to a close at the O2 Arena in London this weekend (BBC Two & Sky Sports 3).

Andy Murray may have fallen in the group stage, but his conqueror Rodger Federer will be battling his way to the final on Sunday where he could meet his great rival Novak Djokovic.

The spectacular mud tracks and gravel roads of north Wales are the setting for the final round of the World Rally Championship season and motorsport fans are spoilt for choice with coverage of Wales Rally GB across four channels this weekend (BT Sport, ITV4, S4C & Motors TV). 

While the title itself isn’t on the line, expect plenty of thrills and spills as the world’s best rally drivers go head-to-head for victory at one of the most prestigious events on the calendar, which all reaches its climax on Sunday lunchtime with the live televised Power Stage (11.45am, BT Sport 2).

Elsewhere, the PDC Grand Slam of Darts comes to a conclusion on Sunday night with final at Wolverhampton Civic Hall (7.00pm, Sky Sports 1), the first big meeting of Jump racing season takes place with the Open Meeting at Cheltenham (Channel 4), while Wladmir Klitschko takes on Kubrat Pulev in his latest defence of the world heavyweight title in Germany on Saturday night (8.00pm, British Eurosport 2).

Lewis Hamilton’s season-long duel with team-mate Nico Rosberg will finally be decided this weekend in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi (BBC One/Sky Sports F1).

The Briton holds the advantage in the fight for the world championship crown, but with double points up for grabs in Abu Dhabi, one wrong move could hand the title to Rosberg.

Mercedes’ superiority means Hamilton should only need to finish the race to win a second championship. Elsewhere, Sebastian Vettel will drive a Red Bull for the last time, while the uncertainty surrounding Jenson Button’s future means it could be the crowd favourite’s last Formula 1 outing.

Eight of Britain’s best fighters, seven superb fights and two guys who just don’t like each other is the prospect in store for boxing fans on Saturday night with Tony Bellew’s highly anticipated re-match against Nathan Cleverly (Sky Sports Box Office).

The first fight was close after a torrid build-up and relations between the pair have deteriorated since, with Bellew believing he should have been given a rematch, but Cleverly didn’t respond, resulting in a bitter war of words.

Cleverly and Bellew’s bitter rematch tops the bill but with Anthony Joshua, George Groves, James DeGale and two of Britain’s world champions also in action, who is going to steal the show?

A busy weekend in football features two must-see matches, the first of which takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday with one of the biggest rivalries in Premier League history – Arsenal against Manchester United (Sky Sports 1).

After the nervy encounters of last season, a string of summer arrivals, most notably Alexis Sanchez and Angel di Maria, surely means fans have another classic on the cards. Just a point and a place separate the two sides who have stuttered at the start of this campaign and both Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal will have targeted victory on Saturday night.

Then on Sunday, the England Women’s team takes centre stage in front of almost 60,000 fans at Wembley Stadium as they take on Germany in an historic international match (BBC Two).

England team have been on a fantastic run under Mark Sampson, qualifying for 2015’s World Cup in Canada with a 100 per cent record from their group, and now they face the sternest of tests against the Germans, who have lifted the European Championship crown on six successive occasions, but will have a record crowd for an England women’s match to cheer them on.

Its the penultimate Saturday of Autumn Internationals as Wales look to end their losing run against world champions New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium (BBC Two).

Scotland take on Tonga at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park (BBC One) and Ireland face Australia in Dublin (Sky Sports 2), with both sides looking to end their three-match autumn series on a high, while England go up against Samoa under the floodlights at Twickenham (Sky Sports 2).

Elsewhere, the world’s first electric racing series is back for its second outing as the Formula E Championship continues in Putrajaya, Malaysia, in the early hours of Saturday morning (ITV4), the European Tour golf season concludes in Dubai with the DP World Tour Championship, featuring Rory McIlory (Sky Sports 4), while Roger Federer aims to win his first Davis Cup title with Switzerland as they take on France in Lille in the final of the world cup of tennis (British Eurosport 2).
